Filecoin (FIL) is a decentralized storage Layer 1 using Expected Consensus, where storage providers are elected to produce blocks according to verified storage power. Smart-contract logic runs as actors on the Filecoin Virtual Machine, while global state is represented as an actor state tree and full nodes validate tipsets, messages, proofs, and state transitions. This actor-based model makes messages, actors, tipsets, and storage-market state the core integration primitives, rather than the account-and-block model used by EVM-first chains.
