Bittensor (TAO) is a Substrate-based Layer 1 for decentralized machine-intelligence markets, using Aura for block production and GRANDPA for finality while organizing participants into independent subnets. Its runtime is built with FRAME, with state stored in Substrate key-value storage rather than a UTXO ledger, while full nodes execute runtime logic and track balances, staking, subnet, and block state; EVM functionality also supports Solidity-facing interactions. This mixed Substrate and EVM surface makes both native runtime state and Ethereum-compatible execution relevant to application integrations.
