Ethereum Classic

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a proof-of-work Layer 1 smart contract network compatible with the EVM, with the Thanos upgrade in November 2020 modifying its mining algorithm after the network’s 2020 attacks. Solidity and other EVM languages compile to bytecode executed against Ethereum-style account state, while full nodes maintain balances, contract storage, blocks, receipts, and logs. Its continued EVM compatibility means Ethereum tooling, transaction formats, and JSON-RPC conventions remain applicable even though consensus differs from proof-of-stake Ethereum.
