Changed. The estimate now includes the minimum gas limit that the mempool requires for a transaction of this size. For large transactions (big calldata) the returned value can be higher than before; previously a transaction signed with the estimate could be rejected with insufficient gas limit for tx size. The response format is unchanged.

Simulates a transaction and returns an estimate of how much gas would be used.
